Your flooring can easily act as the cornerstone of your property's aesthetic. If it looks dull and drab, it may affect your décor negatively. Similarly, when it looks slick and shiny, it can make your home stand out for all the right reasons.

Fortunately, you don't need to pull out all the stops to keep your wooden floor shiny. With a few simple tips, you'll get the most from your flooring with minimal effort.

Remove Dirt Daily

Even when you think you don't see any daily dirt on your wooden floors, it is there. Sometimes dirt and dust are so microscopic they gather without you noticing. Unfortunately, the longer dirt remains in place, the more likely it is to scuff your floor and reduce its shine.

Try using a gentle brush and a microfibre cloth each day to remove dirt. You should also mop your floor once a week using an appropriate solution to get rid of any lingering dust the dirt leaves over the course of seven days. Always use a mop that's only just damp, as introducing too much water to your floor can also cause it to dull.

Clear Spillages Immediately

While spillages won't cause your floor to fade, leaving them alone results in unsightly stains that are difficult to tackle once there. Wherever possible, soak up a spillage as soon as you notice it is there.

With certain substances, you may need to use water and vinegar to clear them away. For example, red wine that rests for more than a few moments can cause a stain that wiping alone won't remove. Instead, try using vinegar and water to clear it away, and then buff your floor until it's dry to maintain its shine.

Try Floor Polishing

There's no need to polish your floor too often, and doing so too often may not be good for the material. However, when the time does come to polish, you'll need to make sure you do it right from the get-go.

By using a floor polisher, you can buff the surface and introduce a sheen that cleaning alone cannot achieve. The right polisher will also reduce and repair cracks, which in turn gives your floor an enviably attractive aesthetic. Whether you hire a polisher and use it as part of a DIY effort or you recruit a professional to do the work for you, you should also find that you reduce moisture damage.

Finally, always make sure guests remove their shoes before coming into your home. In doing so, you'll keep dirt to a minimum and maintain the way your floor looks.
